YOUNGSTOWN

Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., will host a pre-Christmas revival, “Jesus Christ Is Our Peace with God.” The revival will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Rev. Gary L. Frost of Mission America Coalition will be the speaker. The revival is open to the public.

Locust Grove to host 175th anniversary

SALEM

Locust Grove Baptist Church, 12015 Washingtonville Road, will host its 175th anniversary party from 2 to 7 p.m. today. The theme is “An Old Fashioned Christmas.”

There will be historical displays and members available to answer questions.

A country-western concert will be presented during the afternoon by Jim Pop, local musician and church member.

Food will be served throughout the event.

Christmas cantata

BOARDMAN

Lockwood United Methodist Church, 4570 Lockwood Blvd., will host a Christmas cantata during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Lessons and carols

BOARDMAN

Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., will present its annual Lessons and Carols at 10 a.m. Sunday, led by its Chancel Choir.

The program will include Scripture readings followed by traditional hymns with organ accompaniment, choral anthems accompanied by organ, piano and hand bells, as well as contemporary music with guitar and piano.

Christmas party

YOUNGSTOWN

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will host its Christmas party for family and friends at 5 p.m. Sunday.

This is a free event and open to the public.

Zion Lutheran to host special holiday service

YOUNGSTOWN

Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, will host “Break Through the Darkness” at 2 p.m. Sunday.

This is a nondenominational service for families and friends of loved ones who have died.

This service of light, Scripture, music and anointing will celebrate those in attendance as well as their loved one, and what the holidays mean without that special person.

No reservations are needed.

Children’s program, live Nativity planned

MINERAL RIDGE

The First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will host a children’s program during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.

After the service, there will be a birthday cake for baby Jesus in the fellowship hall.

Also Sunday, a special contemplative Christmas service will take place at 5 p.m.

And from 6 to 8 p.m., the public is invited to participate in a live Nativity on the church’s front lawn. Costumes will be ready in the fellowship hall. Live animals will be present.

Carols will be sung in front of the Nativity from 7 to 7:30 p.m.

There will be hot chocolate and cookies served in the fellowship hall.

Annual live Nativity

CANFIELD

Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, will host the 38th annual Live Nativity on Sunday. Performances will be at 5:30, 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m.

Soup and sandwiches will be served after each performance.

Poland church to offer Christmas program

POLAND

“O Come All Ye Faithful – A Musical Celebration of Christmas” is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Poland Presbyterian Church, 2 Poland Manor.

The program, directed by Steve Pridon, will feature traditional, gospel, classical and contemporary Christmas music performed by the Chancel Choir, children’s choir, Village Ringers and the Sheet and Tube Brass Quartet.

Freewill donations will be accepted on behalf of the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Refreshments will be available after the concert. For information, call 330-757-1547.

Program puts focus on infant mortality

YOUNGSTOWN

The Senior Mission of Mount Olive Fire Baptized Holiness Church, 124 W. Marion Ave., will host a special program from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The program will focus on infant mortality in the Mahoning Valley.

Mayor John A. McNally and Leigh Green-Colvin from the Youngstown Office of Minority Health will be present to stress the importance of the awareness of infant mortality.

The event will highlight the birth of Jesus Christ with a “Baby Shower for Jesus.” Participants are asked to bring donations for mom or baby.

Donations will be given to organizations that help pregnant mothers. The event is open to the public.

Blue Christmas event

NORTH JACKSON

First Federated Church, 10786 Mahoning Ave., will host Blue Christmas at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday. This is a quiet service of reassurance and music. Participants will have the opportunity to light a candle of hope.

Conversation, cookies and hot cocoa will follow the service.

Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Dr., invites those who feel the need for some time for stillness and reflection this holiday season to join them at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the Blue Christmas service.

The service is a more somber worship service of prayer and reflection that allows time for sadness and mourning during the holidays.
