Diabetes fundraiser

YOUNGSTOWN

More than 30 million people across the United States have diabetes, and if current trends continue, one in three adults will have the disease by 2050.

Several city school students are among those statistics, and the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley Fund assists many of those families, as well as other Valley residents with the disease through education, information, resources and support.

DPMV, which raises money for scholarships for students with diabetes, will be at Barnes & Noble in the Shops at Boardman Park from 4 to 7 p.m. today with The Grinch.

Vouchers will be available during the event, and a portion of every sale for which a voucher is presented will go toward those scholarships.

Robbery suspect

YOUNGSTOWN

Police have a person of interest in a robbery Wednesday afternoon at Metro PCS on Mahoning Avenue.

An employee told police a man wearing a black hoodie and white Halloween hockey mask entered the business at 2936 Mahoning Ave. at about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, pointed a gun at her face and said, “Get the money.”

The man stuffed money into a Family Dollar bag and ordered the employee to the floor before leaving, a report says.

Witnesses directed police to a Rhoda Avenue home where they found wet footprints and property belonging to the person of interest.
