Benefit planned for family of Austintown man

Staff report

AUSTINTOWN

Friends of a township man who died last month are coming together Sunday to support his family.

A benefit for Jordan Johnson’s family will take place at JR’z Pub at 1722 S. Raccoon Road. All of the proceeds will be donated to Johnson’s family.

Johnson, 27, died Nov. 29. In his obituary, his family said he will be remembered “for his beautiful smile and his genuine, giant heart.” They shared, too, that he had struggled privately with addiction for some time.

Josh Roman, a longtime friend of Johnson’s who is involved with the benefit event, described Johnson as a strong, selfless person who was well-known in the Austintown community.

“If you lived in Austintown, you knew Jordan,” Roman said.

Sunday’s event runs from 4:30 to 9 p.m. It will feature T-shirts for $15 and a basket raffle featuring items from businesses such as Skate Zone, Komara Jewelry, Intuitive Ink and more. Raffle winners will be announced at 8:30 p.m., but winners need not be present.

Donations also can be dropped of at Intuitive Ink, 5620 Mahoning Ave. in Suite C, before the benefit.

“Everyone is welcome,” Roman said. “They don’t have to bring anything. Just show up and be there for Jordan’s family.”
