MEN

No. 1 Villanova 87, Temple 67

PHILADELPHIA

Jalen Brunson had 22 of his career-high 31 points in No. 1 Villanova’s dominating first half and Omari Spellman scored 27 to help lead the Wildcats. Donte DiVincenzo added 12 points for Villanova (11-0), which won its unprecedented 22nd straight Big 5 game. The Wildcats last lost a contest in the Philadelphia round-robin series to Temple on Dec. 5, 2012. The Big 5 also consists of La Salle, Saint Joseph’s and Penn. With his dad Rick sitting two rows behind the Villanova bench, Brunson led the way. The 6-foot-2 junior point guard made 8 of 10 shots, including 5 of 7 3-pointers, and added four assists while controlling the opening 20 minutes. The performance surely impressed Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown and Rookie of the Year candidate Ben Simmons, who were among the sellout crowd of 10,206 at Temple. Quinton Rose scored 27 points for the Owls (6-3), who began the week No. 11 in the RPI rankings. It was the third straight season Temple played Villanova as a No. 1, and the Owls fell to 2-18 all-time against No. 1-ranked opponents.

No. 9 Texas A&M 113, Savannah State 66

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS

Tyler Davis recorded a double-double before halftime and No. 9 Texas A&M put seven players in double figures while rolling over Savannah State. D.J. Hogg led the balanced scoring for the Aggies (9-1) with 18 points. Davis overpowered the smaller Tigers (3-8) near the basket, finishing with 17 rebounds and 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. A&M produced its highest point total since the 1988-89 season, connecting on a school-record 16 3-pointers in 38 attempts. Hogg made 5 of 9 from 3-point range, while point guard Duane Wilson and reserve T.J. Starks hit four apiece. Javaris Jenkins led Savannah State of the MEAC with 18 points.

Belmont 82, Milwaukee 63

NASHVILLE

Amanze Egekeze hit six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 32 points, 19 in the second half, and Belmont pulled away for a win over Milwaukee. Dylan Windler had 13 of his 17 points in the second half for the Bruins (6-5), who led 32-26 at the half. Windler and Egekeze both had 11 rebounds. Nick Hopkins hit four 3s for 12 points as Belmont went 14 of 33 behind the line.Hopkins hit two 3s as the Bruins closed the first half with an 8-2 run and Egekeze hit a 3 as they opened the second half with another 8-2 surge to lead by 12. After Egekeze hit back-to-back 3s to make it a 14-point game, the Panthers scored eight straight. Belmont answered with eight, five by Austin Luke, and when a Bryce Barnes jumper pulled Milwaukee within nine with 8:38 to go, Luke hit a 3 and Egekeze two free throws and the lead remained in double figures.

WOMEN

No. 5 Mississippi State 90, No. 9 Oregon 79

STARKVILLE, MISS.

Teaira McCowan scored a career-high 35 points and had 19 rebounds to help No. 5 Mississippi State beat No. 9 Oregon. The 6-foot-7 McCowan was nearly unstoppable, making 15 of 18 shots from the field. She scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds before halftime and continued to dominate during the second half, scoring after offensive rebounds and off well-timed passes. She blocked five shots and 12 of her 19 rebounds were on the offensive end. Mississippi State (10-0) also got a steallar performance from Victoria Vivians, who scored 30 points, including 26 in the second half. She shot 10 of 15 from the field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Oregon (8-2) was led by Ruthy Hebard, who scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Ducks lost despite shooting 55 percent from the field. Satou Sabally added 17 points.

No. 6 Baylor 95, McNeese State 34

WACO, TEXAS

Kristy Wallace scored 20 points and No. 6 Baylor opened on a 27-3 run to rout McNeese State. Kalani Brown had 17 points and 16 rebounds, and Didi Richards added 11 points and 12 rebounds for her first career double-double with the Lady Bears (9-1), who were playing their first game in eight days. Baylor shot 44 percent (36 of 80), including 39 percent from 3-point range (9 of 23). Natalie Chou scored 17 points, Juicy Landrum had 10 and Wallace had five assists to bring her total over the last three games to 20 with only one turnover. Moon Ursin grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds.

No. 8 Texas 68, Northwestern State 44

AUSTIN, TEXAS

Ariel Atkins had 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals in only 21 minutes and No. 8 Texas beat Northwestern State. The senior guard converted all six of her shots from the field for the Longhorns (8-1). Center Jatarie Whie added 15 points in 19 minutes, and Jada Underwood had 11 points. Freshman Jha’ne Wheeler led Northwestern State with a season-best 15 points. Wheeler had four 3-point baskets after hitting six in eight games before facing Texas. Nautica Grant scored 10 points.

No. 17 Oregon State 84, Savannah State 36

CORVALLIS, ORE.

Mikayla Pivec scored 19 points, Marie Gulich had 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, and No. 17 Oregon State used a 26-5 second quarter to beat Savannah State. Joanna Grymek added 16 points for Oregon State (7-2), which had the third-highest attendance (8,280) in program history. Kat Tudor scored all 11 of her points in the first half. Gulich had 12 points and eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes to help Oregon State build a 45-14 halftime lead. Pivec added seven points.
