WARREN — The mother of children 9 and 8 told police she bought heroin because she was depressed, but she fell unconscious, and her children called their grandmother Wednesday night.

When paramedics arrived, they revived Julie M. Pirtz, 38, of Atlantic Street Northeast, but police charged her with two counts of misdemeanor child endangering in the 10:30 p.m. incident.

Police found Pirtz face down and faintly breathing. She eventually walked to an ambulance after being revived with Naloxone, the opioid-reversal drug.

Police found a small pile of suspected heroin on the kitchen counter next to her driver's license and within reach of the children, according to a police report.

The children's grandmother, who was at the house when police arrived, took custody of the children, and Trumbull County Children Services was contacted.

Pirtz will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court.
