I-76 in Jackson Township reopened after crash involving two tractor-trailers

NORTH JACKSON — Westbound lanes of Interstate 76 are open this morning after a two-hour closure following a crash involving two tractor-trailers.

About 11 p.m. Wednesday night, a tractor-trailer lost control and traveled off the right side of the road striking a guard rail, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Moments later after the driver left the truck, another tractor-trailer struck the trailer of the truck that hit the guardrail pushing the trailer into the driver, state troopers said.

Ambulances took both drivers to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The driver of the first truck sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, and the second driver sustained serious injuries, state troopers said.

Names have not been released and the crash is under investigation.

Troopers plan to charge the second driver for failing to maintain a safe distance.
