Probation for dad, son

YOUNGSTOWN

A father and son each received three years’ probation Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault related to a fight earlier this year.

Jorge Collazo, 43, and his son Christian Otero, 25, both of Youngstown, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. Collazo also pleaded guilty to a count of menacing by stalking in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Both men faced two counts of felonious assault and one count of menacing by stalking.

The fight involved a man who worked with Collazo’s wife in a food truck, and Collazo claimed the man made sexual advances toward her, a defense attorney said.

Board work session

Austintown school board will have a work session at 1 p.m. today at the central office in the Dr. David Ritchie Legacy Room, 700 Raccoon Road.

The regular session will take place at 5 p.m. in the Austintown Middle School Cafetorium, 800 Raccoon Road.

NY bishop will speak

YOUNGSTOWN

Bishop Roderick L. Hennings of Buffalo, N.Y., who serves as director of church growth and development for Church of God In Christ denominations and is a White House liaison, will be speaking at Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center, 2139 Market St., at 7 p.m. Friday.

Bishop Hennings has written his first book, titled “It’s a Matter of Dominion.”

He is founding pastor of Zion Dominion Global Ministries, one church with two locations, with campuses in Amherst and Rush, N.Y.

Achievement for county

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report.

An impartial panel judged the report, which it found to demonstrate a “spirit of full disclosure.”

The GFOA said the certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting. It represents a significant accomplishment by the government.

1st place for speech team

CANFIELD

Canfield speech and debate team took another win at Poland Seminary Speech & Debate Tournament this past weekend. Students Eva Lamberson, Taryn Rothbauer and Michael Factor received first-place individual finishes in their respective categories.

The school’s team has taken first-place overall finishes in all but one competition this season.

Vets’ meetings canceled
