Man charged with attacking police at St. E’s

A Michigan Avenue man spent the weekend in the Mahoning County jail after reports said he bit, kicked and scratched police officers for Mercy Health Systems on Saturday at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he was being held because of extreme intoxication.
Dennis Pautot, 40, was arraigned in municipal court Monday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly on charges of disorderly conduct, assault, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. She set his bond at 10 percent of $7,000.
Reports said hospital police were called to the emergency room just after 5 p.m. to stop Pautot from leaving because he was intoxicated. Reports did not indicate why Pautot was in the emergency room.
Officers asked Pautot to stay, and he became loud and was swearing, reports said. Reports said when he failed to stop after being warned several times, officers tried to take him in custody for disorderly conduct. Reports said he fought officers until they were able to get him handcuffed and put him in a cruiser to take him to the jail.
On the way to the jail, Pautot slammed his head violently into a divider in the cruiser, and when the officer stopped to check on him, there was blood over the back seat, reports said, so he was taken back to St. E’s.
There, he struggled with officers again and kicked, scratched and bit one of them, reports said.
Pautot had to be strapped down to a gurney, police said.
Also arraigned Monday was Janiero Myers, 25, of Atkinson Avenue, on a felony charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle on the East Side.
Police arrested him about 11 p.m. Friday after a car in which he was a passenger was pulled over at Lans-downe Boulevard and Clay Street for improper plates.
Reports said police found a loaded .40-caliber handgun under the seat where Myers was sitting when the car was searched after a police dog detected the scent of drugs inside. Some marijuana flakes were found inside the car. Judge Kobly set Myers’ bond at $5,000.
Also arraigned Monday on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drugs was Brailyn Bunn, 22, of Tyrell Avenue, who police arrested about 4:05 p.m. Friday on the North Side after a car in which he was a passenger was pulled over at Glemont and Margaret avenues for running a stop sign. Reports said the car was recently seen at a suspected drug transaction at a Belmont Avenue store.
Bunn was searched, and police found a bag of suspected heroin in his pocket and 48 pills in a fast-food bag inside the car that Bunn said belonged to him. A judge set his bond at $10,000.
About 4:30 p.m. Sunday, police arrested Jesse Shiflett, 23, of East Midlothian Boulevard, at a Mount Vernon Avenue home on the South Side. A woman called police and said Shiflett punched her in the face. When police arrived, Shiflett ran but was later caught. He also has two warrants for his arrest, reports said.
Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, police arrested Erica Stewart, 39, at her East Midlothian Boulevard home just minutes after police left her South Side home on a domestic-violence complaint.
Reports said there was broken furniture and glass and blood drops inside when police came back. Judge Kobly set her bond at $2,000 on a charge of obstruction of justice and $10,000 on two pending theft charges.
