Members of the Kent State University Trumbull Student Nurses Association recently raised money to purchase infant sleep sacks for new parents at Trumbull Memorial Hospital to counteract high infant-mortality rates in the state. Additionally, in collaboration with the Red Cross, they installed smoke detectors in the homes of veterans, families in domestic-abuse situations and the elderly. They also packed shoe boxes with toys, personal hygiene and other small items for Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritan’s Purse organization. The newest class of graduating nurses will be recognized at 6 p.m. Thursday at Vernon’s Cafe, 720 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles, as more than 20 students receive their pins.
