Harry Potter comes alive at Struthers school

The pages of J. K. Rowlings’ “Harry Potter” series came to life during the monthly sixth-grade Harry Potter Book Club meetings at Struthers Middle School. The first meeting was Oct. 17 with 50 students in attendance. They discussed the first book and J.K. Rowlings’ inspiration behind the Sorting Hat and crafted their own wands while watching “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Students also have signed up for Pottermore, an interactive website that explores the in-depth Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where they were “sorted” into their Hogwarts Houses. The book club was started by teachers Jennifer Pint, Erica Loew and Elizabeth Kelly and will meet monthly throughout the school year. Above, students in the club work on crafting wands.
