GOLF JARED WILSON Columbiana
Jared Wilson got the perfect exit from the Columbiana golf team.
When his final Division III state tournament appearance was done in October, he won his second straight state title and set The Ohio State University Scarlet Course record.
“I couldn’t have imagined a better way to close out my high school career,” Wilson said. “I had a lot of fun in the last four years played some good golf and to top it all off like that, I couldn’t have asked for anything better than that.”
The senior’s medalist performance marks the third consecutive year he’s finished as one of the top five golfers in the state. His two-day score of 141 was the only under par score of the 2017 tournament. That score — plus his day-one score of 69 — are Scarlet Course records.
“I knew I had a good score the first day, but I wasn’t thinking about [the record] too much,” Wilson said. “I just wanted to go out and play the best round I could. Then whatever happens, happens.”
Columbiana hasn’t officially picked a valedictorian, Wilson hopes to get it and his academic credentials hold up just as well as his prowess on the links.
Wilson carries a 4.5 grade-point average and scored a 35 out of 36 on the ACT, which he did as a freshman. He currently takes four advanced placement courses through Northwestern and two “regular” courses at Columbiana.
Wilson will play golf at Wake Forest next fall. Notre Dame, Ohio State, Northwestern, Kent State and Vanderbilt were all in the mix for the two time state champ.
