Calvin Neckel, Navy Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 2nd Class, a native of Youngstown, is assigned to the engineering department aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America in the Arabian Gulf.

The USS America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.

BASIC TRAINING GRADS

Air Force: Reserve Airman 1st Class Shana M. Peacock, 2014 graduate of Greenville High School, Greenville, Pa., is the daughter of Sylvia and Donald Peacock of Greenville, Pa. She is also the sister of Frank Peacock. Reserve Airman 1st Class Franklin M. Geidner, 2015 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, is the son of Cheryl and Frank Geidner of Youngstown, and the brother of Kelly and Jackie Sheldon.
