BOARDMAN

Police found more than 7 ounces of marijuana at a Meadowbrook Avenue house where two young children live – and the children’s mother told police she wasn’t concerned about marijuana being near them because “it won’t kill them,” according to a police report.

Police served a search warrant at the house Wednesday morning.

They reported making contact with several people in the house, including a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old who were sleeping in a second-floor bedroom.

According to the report, police found numerous drug-related items throughout the house, including bongs, marijuana cigarettes, pipes, several stashes of marijuana, marijuana seeds, pills and a Rice Krispie treat that smelled like marijuana. Police also reported finding $3,314 in cash in a safe. They also reported finding a “Bob Marley tray” in a lockbox with several pipes.

At one point, one of the children in the house called the mother, who told an officer where a key for the safe was located, and said there was only money in there. Police, however, reported finding a “large bag of marijuana,” pipes and a scale in addition to the cash.

The woman then arrived at the house and told police she smokes “a lot of weed,” according to the report.

Police said she also admitted to knowing marijuana was in the safe, saying, “I put my good stuff [weed] in the safe so the girls can’t get it.”

When an officer asked why she would allow marijuana within reach of small children, the woman replied, “I’ve done research about marijuana, and I’m not worried about them swallowing it, it won’t kill them,” according to the report.

Additionally, police said there were “several dogs, six cats and a bunny” in the house, which was filled with “clutter” and animal feces and had no hot water. They also noted that a cat litter box “with a large amount of feces in it” was in the room where the young children sleep.

The woman told police the house was in that condition because she had not been at the house since Tuesday morning because she was at a casino with her boyfriend. Police said a teenager was left in charge of the two young children.

Police later tested the substances found in the house and determined it was marijuana, according to the report.

No arrests were made at the time, which is common after police serve search warrants. Police said Thursday they are still investigating.
