Lordstown police say the body found in roll-off container at the Lafarge Construction Recovery Landfill this morning is that of a white male age 30 to 40. The container came to the landfill from Ravenna. Police began investigating this morning after the body was found by the driver of the roll-off container when he was preparing to off-load the construction demolition debris inside about 9:30 a.m. A 911 call was made a short time later.

A police captain in Ravenna says investigators “have an idea” who was found dead in a garbage roll-off container delivered to the Lafarge demolition debris landfill Friday, but it’s too soon to release any identifying information.

Capt. David Rarrick said he does not know what caused the man’s death but hopes to know early next week, after the Trumbull County coroner conducts an autopsy. He said he was told the truck had come from a Ravenna construction site.

“If that is true, the deceased is probably from here,” Rarrick said.

He would not identify the worksite from which the roll-off truck came.

The man’s body was taken from the landfill to the Trumbull County morgue after police conducted an investigation Friday. The driver of the roll-off truck had delivered a load of debris from Ravenna and was about to unload it when he noticed the body, Lordstown police said.

The male was described as white and about 30 to 40 years old.

Lordstown Detective Chris Bordonaro also said it is too soon to announce the cause or manner of death. So far, the death is being treated as a potential homicide. The truck driver reported what he found about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Rarrick noted that the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force is the lead investigator in the case.

Lafarge closed the facility when the discovery was made so that the investigation could be carried out, a Lafarge spokesperson said. It did not reopen the rest of the day Friday but will reopen Monday, the spokesperson said.

The facility accepts and processes construction demolition debris, the spokesperson said.
