Man receives three years following March vice raid

YOUNGSTOWN

A man found to be in possession of drugs during a March vice raid received a sentence of three years in prison Thursday.

Derrick Tensley, 41, of Republic Avenue, pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal possession of firearms and one count of possession of cocaine.

During a March vice raid, officers found two guns, two bags of marijuana, a bag of cocaine and a bag of crack and $510 at a home Tensley was renovating. He had previous drug charges in 1996, 1997, 2007 and 2009.

While Tensley’s attorney argued that Tensley was in the wrong place at the wrong time and a previous owner or others left the drugs, guns and cash in the home, Judge Anthony M. D’Apolito said that belied his common sense.

“I really wanted you to come in here and be honest with me,” Judge D’Apolito said.

He sentenced Tensley to three years on each count to be served concurrently.
