CANFIELD
Trustees announced an Ohio Public Works Commission-funded road resurfacing and drainage project will begin next year.
The township put up about $66,000 toward replacing catch basins and drainage pipes and road resurfacing for Starr Centre Drive. The township accepted a $147,000 grant from OPWC a month ago for the $213,000 project. Road resurfacing will begin in summer 2018.
“I don’t anticipate it will take a long time,” Trustee Joe Paloski said.
The township purchased a new generator for Canfield Joint Fire District Station 3. Paloski said the generator malfunctioned after a severe storm came through the area. The generator cost the township about $10,000.
Members of both Canfield Township and city government will meet Monday to discuss the possible annexation of township land into city jurisdiction. The land up for annexation on Palmyra Road, near state Route 224, is the city-owned, 288-acre Red Gate Farms, 15 acres owned by MALA Property and about 19 acres owned by developer and televangelist Frank Amedia.
Trustee Marie Cartwright said they’ve been working toward finalizing documents related to the annexation.
