YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University wind ensemble, directed by Stephen L. Gage, will present its annual outdoor concert on Harrison Common Field at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The field is on Walnut Street, across from the MVR restaurant.

Billed as “Movie Magic,” the free pops concert will feature a number of selections that have been part of movie soundtracks or performed on the Broadway stage. The program will include Gershwin’s “Strike Up The Band,” “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” Mackey’s “Sheltering Sky,” highlights from “Porgy and Bess,” “Mambo from “West Side Story,” Armed Forces Salute and Sousa’s classic march “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

“Harrison Common is an outstanding venue for this music, and the YSU wind ensemble is enthusiastically looking forward to performing a pops concert under the open sky in our first concert of the semester,” said Gage.

Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair and snacks. Alcohol is not permitted. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to room 2326 in Bliss Hall, which is near Harrison Common.

Parking is available for a nominal fee in the M-30 Wick Avenue parking deck, accessible from Walnut Street, (GPS address is 100 Wade Street, Youngstown OH 44502) or in the surface lot next to Harrison Common. Patrons are advised to watch for posted detours as construction progresses on Wick Avenue.
