Man locks himself in car to avoid police

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a man wanted for questioning Tuesday by police locked himself in his car and officers had to use a kit from a tow- truck company to get him out.

Police were called about 4:35 p.m. to the 2000 block of Ohio Avenue on the North Side, where a man there said Anthony Jackson, 27, of Ohio Avenue, accused him of ratting him out to police and punched him in the mouth. The man had a bloody lip, reports said.

When officers arrived and tried to talk to Jackson, he got in his car, locked all the doors and refused to come out after police first asked, then ordered him out. A tow truck was called and officers used the “lockout kit” with the truck, used to help motorists to get into locked out cars, get Jackson out of the car.

When the door was opened, Jackson still refused to get out. Officers had to drag him out, and he struggled with them until he was handcuffed.

He was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of assault, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

Man hits parked car, registers 0.296 BAC

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a man who plowed into a parked car Tuesday evening had a blood-alcohol content more than three and a half times the legal limit for driving drunk.

Officers were called about 10 p.m. to the parking lot of Charlie Staples Bar-B-Que, 372 W. Rayen Ave., where a man told them he was sitting in his car in the parking lot when an SUV driven by Russell Taylor, 36, of Katherine Street, struck his car.

Reports said when officers spoke to Taylor, his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. He admitted to having two beers and after he failed a field-sobriety test, he admitted being drunk, reports said.

Taylor agreed to take a BAC test at the city police station, where it registered at 0.296. In Ohio, someone is considered driving drunk if their BAC is 0.08 or higher.

Man tries to hide drugs in mouth

YOUNGSTOWN

Reports said a man struggling with police Tuesday had chunks of suspected cocaine falling out of his mouth.

Officers pulled over a car about 6:15 p.m. at Parkview Avenue and Volney Road on the South Side driven by Tedarro Williams, 31, of West Princeton Avenue, for an improper turn.

Reports said when Williams spoke to police he tried to hide his mouth from them. When they finally saw his mouth, his lips were covered with a white powder and there was a bulge in his cheek.

Officers ordered him to spit out whatever was in his mouth, but Williams refused. When officers tried to handcuff him, he resisted and they ended up falling to the ground. As they fell, reports said the chunks of powder came out of Williams’ mouth.

After Williams was cuffed, he spit out two bags of suspected cocaine, reports said. He was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of cocaine and tampering with evidence.

Police seek help in identifying man

HUBBARD

City police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man suspected of breaking into several businesses.

Surveillance footage shows a white male in a white hoodie using a crowbar after 2 a.m. Aug. 19 to pry open the door at Splash & Shine Auto Bath, 624 N. Main St. Police believe the man also broke into Pizza Works and Morrow’s Auto Services, also on North Main, that night. Detective Sgt. Chris Moffitt said the man tried to take money from the businesses, but was unsuccessful.

Hubbard police posted screen shots of surveillance footage to their Facebook page Wednesday. It appears the man used red fabric to cover his face.

Anyone with information can leave anonymous tips with Moffitt at 330-534-8153, ext. 3004.
