Ribbon cutting today

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 171st Canfield Fair will take place at 10 a.m. today at the Concourse Stage.

Dave Dickey, fair president, will provide an update on the fair’s capital campaign for the new Junior Fair complex coming in 2018.

Youth events planned

Today is Youth Day at the Canfield Fair.

Go to the Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley tent in the main concourse by the Grandstand for children’s activities.

At 2 p.m., the 4-H King and Queen will be crowned on the Concourse Stage.

Also, the Mahoning County Junior Fair Outstanding Youth will be named.

Rooster sculptures

The Fine Arts Building at the fair is celebrating the year of the rooster this year with rooster sculpture entries.

Also in the Fine Arts Building, fairgoers are being asked to have their picture taken to be a part of a photo montage peace poster for the biennial Global Peace Project. The project will be exchanged with another country when complete.

The YMCA and Trumbull Area Artists are at the fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day behind the Fine Arts Building to answer any questions the public has about art and the local art community.
