YOUNGSTOWN
A baby was dropped off Monday afternoon at the Youngstown Police Department on West Boardman Street.
The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported police earlier were asking for help in identifying the little girl, who was said to be healthy. By Monday night, police said they had a lead on who the child’s parents are and were awaiting confirmation at press time.
The child remained in the care of Mahoning County Children Services overnight. Police, working with children services, continue their investigation today.
Charged with child endangering
BOARDMAN
A woman faces a child-endangering charge after someone reported the woman was outside smoking marijuana while her toddler screamed inside for an hour.
When police arrived Saturday night, officers reported the 18-month-old child was sitting in a playpen, without a diaper on “and food or dirt ... all over his face and in his hair,” according to the report.
Police searched her vehicle, where they reported finding marijuana, alcohol and a prescription pill Arianna Traficant, 25, denied belonged to her. She was arrested on charges of child endangering and drug possession, and was cited for marijuana possession.
Chase leads to arrest
YOUNGSTOWN
A man who led police on a chase after officers tried to pull him over about 10:25 p.m. Friday for not having a license plate light spent the weekend in the Mahoning County jail.
Reports said William Edward Stanley, 37, of St. Louis Avenue, failed to stop after police tried to pull him over on Rush Boulevard and he drove about 60 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone before abandoning his car while it was still in gear in the 500 block of Cameron Avenue.
An officer managed to run down Stanley in a nearby yard. He faces several traffic charges as well as a charge of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer.
He was arraigned Monday in municipal court.

The westbound Ohio Turnpike bridge over Garfield Road in Springfield Township will be reduced to a single lane next week and remain that way through November. The bridge over Garfield requires a bridge deck replacement and other repairs.
The change begins next Tuesday and will continue through Nov. 15. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 mph.
The work is part of a $4.65 million effort to rehabilitate nine bridges on the turnpike, according to a news release from the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
