Buhl Day 2017 is seeking entries for this year’s art show. It will be a juried 2D multimedia art show that will take place at the Buhl Casino on Buhl Day, Sept. 4. The show committee will be accepting entries anytime between 5 and 8 p.m. Friday at the Buhl casino. All accepted pieces will be judged Saturday. The winning art piece will be displayed at Cravings, 76 Shenango Ave., downtown Sharon, during September.

AUCTIONS

Austintown Fraternal Order of Eagles 3298 Auxiliary will sponsor a quarter auction to benefit Potential Development School for Children with Autism Sept. 9 at the meeting house, 1655 S. Raccoon Road. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the auction will begin at 4. Cost is $10 which includes one bidding paddle. Adults only. Advanced ticket purchases only. Seating is limited to 140 people. Saint Columba will host its second annual quarter auction at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the parish hall, 159 W. Rayen Ave. Cost of a paddle is $10 with additional paddles that evening for $1. Guests are welcome to bring snacks and refreshments. Concessions will be available, and there will be free coffee and table treats. CRAFT SHOWS

Westminster College will host its second annual Lakeside Craft Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 at Anderson Amphitheater near Brittain Lake. The fair is hosted by the College’s student government and dining services and is open to the community. Proceeds will benefit the Lawrence County “Empty Bowls” program. Vendor table fees are $5 for students and $15 for community members. Local college and high school students are welcome to participate. Vendor applications will be accepted until Friday. Our Lady of the Lakes Ladies Guild will host a craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Our Lady of the Lakes Family Center, 1254 Grandview Road, Lake Milton. FUNDRAISERS

Austintown Alumni Association is selling raffle tickets for this year’s scholarship and mini-grant fundraiser. Announcement of winners will take place at the football game at Falcon Stadium on Sept. 22 during half time. Members are selling a book of six raffle tickets for $5 or individual tickets for $1 each. Sit Means Sit, 1330 Seaborn St. Suite 6, Mineral Ridge, will host a fundraiser involving Presents for Paws, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 2. St. Nicholas School is participating in a shoe collection fundraiser until Oct. 1. Rubber band gently used shoes in pairs. The goal is to collect 2500 pairs and boxes to donate are located at St. Nicholas and Holy Trinity Church doors.

Sight for all United will host “The Second Eye Ball of the Mahoning Valley” on Sept. 30 at Powers Auditorium. This event will help raise funds to continue to sustain Sight for All and assist the citizens in our community who are in need of vision services. “American Idol” finalist, Scott MacIntyre will be the special guest. Sponsorships available are Visionary, $10,000 reserves 16 seats (two tables); Crystal Clear, $5,000 reserves eight seats; 20-20 donor, $2,500 reserves eight seats; and Sight Saver, $1,000 reserves eight seats. Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, will host a Trunk Treasures and Vendor sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9. The event is like a garage sale with multiple families gathered in the parking lot. The vendor show will take place inside the church and features local crafters as well as direct sale consultants. Thus far, there are multiple vendors bringing their wares. Visitors can purchase 50/50 raffle tickets and auction tickets to win various baskets, items and gift cards. Auction and raffle winners will be pulled Sept. 10 after the 11 a.m. service. Winners need not be present to win. Interested sellers can reserve a spot for $15. All proceeds from reservation fees benefit Zion Youth attending the 2018 ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston. Salem Public Library, 821 E. State St., will host the program, “Cybersecurity Help, Information and Protection Program” at 2 p.m. Sept. 14. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of both security and privacy, including special challenges presented by smartphones and other mobile devices at this CHIPP presentation. This event is not sponsored by, nor affiliated with, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Youngstown and St. Rose Church Rosetta in Girard are offering Italian Language classes. Mount Carmel classes will run Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. with registration and the first class set for Sept. 14. Registration and classes will begin Sept. 21 at St. Rose Church in Rosetta Hall. Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, is planning a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16. There will be no early sales. Tires, computers and TVs will not be accepted. Half-off and bag-sale will last all day on Saturday. Proceeds from sales will go to the church choir, the women’s group and the Cancer Relay for Life team who will be serving lunch. Also, homemade food items, kitchen items, toys, furniture, tools, clothes, books and miscellaneous items will be on sale. Donald Lockett VFW Post 6488 will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $7 from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at 2065 Coitsville Hubbard Road, Youngstown.

Niles Historical Society will hold its monthly open house of the Ward-Thomas Museum, 503 Brown St., from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday with the last tour beginning at 4 p.m. The monthly membership meeting will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 in the Westenfield Room. All members are welcome. Plans for the upcoming garage sale on Sept. 15-16 at 37 Hartzell Ave. will be made. The hours for the sale will be 9 to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 to noon Saturday.

Youngstown Shrine Club will host its annual Clambake from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 9 at the club’s pavilion, 1735 W. South Range Rd., Route 165. This is the club’s signature event each year, and the public is invited to attend. The event is a STAG, males only, and includes a full lunch from 1 to 4 p.m. with hot sausage and/or pulled-pork sandwiches with all the fixings. At 6:30 p.m., the evening dinner is served with clams, corn, chicken, lobster tail and more. Adult beverages are included in the ticket price of $85 for the all-day event. St. Charles Parish library committee will sponsor a presentation on local Jewish history at 7 p.m., Sept. 7, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Dr. Boardman. Speakers Thomas Welsh, Joshua Foster and Gordon Morgan, co-authors of “A History of Jewish Youngstown and the Steel Valley,” will share highlights of their recently released book.
