Music at Noon returns to Butler

The Dana School of Music’s Music at Noon concerts for the upcoming fall semester will resume Wednesday, where new faculty member Dr. Kivie Cahn-Lipman will perform a cello recital at 12:15 p.m. at the Butler Institute of American Art.

Cahn-Lipman has degrees from Oberlin and Juilliard, and he recently received his doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.

He is the founding cellist of the International Contemporary Ensemble – with which he performs regularly to international critical acclaim – as well as founder, lironist and director of the baroque string band ACRONYM and gambist with the viol consort LeStrange.

Cahn-Lipman appears on more than 40 recordings.

As a chamber musician, he has performed frequently in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and other major venues on four continents.

He taught cello at Smith and Mount Holyoke Colleges from 2005-12 and at The College of New Jersey from 2015-17, and he has been on the faculty of the Cortona Sessions for New Music each summer since 2012.

All Music at Noon concerts are free and open to the public.

Parking is available in the M30 Wick Avenue parking deck via Walnut Street (GPS address is 100 Wade St.) for a nominal fee or in the Butler’s parking lot.

Patrons are advised to watch for posted detours as construction progresses on Wick Avenue.
