YSU grad named STEM Teacher of Year

Adrienne Unertl, a 2001 Youngstown State University graduate, has been named the 2017 STEM Elementary Teacher of the Year in Wyoming. The 2001 Youngstown State University alumna was recognized during the state’s 2017 STEM Conference in Gillette.

Unertl has been in her current role as assistive technologist with the Uinta County School District #1 in Evanstown, Wyo., since 2015. As assistive technologist, Unertl works in special education at the district level. She is responsible for finding equipment and services that benefit students and researching hardware and software and to make recommendations about services or equipment that aligns with the student’s goals.

Scholarship recipient will study abroad

Emily Henline of Youngstown is the latest Youngstown State University student selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad.

Henline will be studying in South Korea at Yonsei University for the 2017-18 academic year.

Henline was selected to receive the Gilman Program’s Critical Need Language Award of $8,000. This supplemental funding is awarded to students studying a critical-need language – languages deemed critical for U.S. national security and economic opportunity.
