The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will sponsor its 14th annual dahlia show from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on next Sunday at Carnation City Mall, 2500 W. State St.

Exhibitors may enter in the youth, novice, small grower or large grower sections. Artistic design pieces may also be entered in the show. All entries must be in place by 9 a.m. Saturday and not removed until the show closes.

The best entry in each class will receive a special ribbon and advance to the court of honor. Society members will be on hand to answer questions about growing, caring and showing the dahlia. For more information, call Harriet at 330-550-6342.

Avamar benefit accepting reservations

The Avamar Foundation’s tenth annual benefit, “Evening Under the Stars,” will again be hosted by Dr. Farid Naffah at his residence for two evenings, Friday and Saturday.

Entertainment will be provided by the Motown tribute band, Shadows of the 60’s, a 12-member New York music, dancing and singing group. The tribute will feature the works of the Four Tops, The Supremes, the Temptations, Wilson Pickett and others.

The event will include dining by restaurateur Michael Alberini and a guest appearance by award-winning artist Viktorija Bulava.

Tickets are $200, and VIP tickets are $300. For reservations, call 330-539-9999 or visit www.avamarfoundation.org. A gold sponsorship is $1,600, and a platinum sponsorship is $2,400. Both sponsorships include tables of eight. A portion of these costs are tax-deductible.

All proceeds go to Avamar, which helps the community’s less fortunate residents purchase medication.
