Author Louis Picone will speak in Mentor

MENTOR, OHIO

James A. Garfield National Historic Site, 8095 Mentor Ave., is announcing a program and book signing at 1 p.m. Saturday by Louis L. Picone, author of “The President is Dead! The Extraordinary Stories of the Presidential Deaths, Final Days, Burials and Beyond.”

He will speak about interesting, unique and heartbreaking deaths of former presidents, including James A. Garfield.

The program is free, and the book is available in the site’s Eastern National bookstore. The author will sign books after the program. Also offered will be guided tours of the Garfield home, museum exhibits, a biographical film, walking paths and more. For information, call 440-255-8722.

Mystery book club starting at Lepper

Lepper Library, 303 E. Lincoln Way, will start a mystery book club at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 31.

Attendees at the first meeting can voice opinions on how the club will be set up. There also will be a “book-tasting” to sample new authors. Call the library at 330-424-3117 to register.
