Cedar Point plans new roller coaster

Cedar Point’s FrontierTown will be transformed when Steel Vengeance – the tallest, fastest and longest hybrid roller coaster in the world – opens in the spring.

The design combines a steel running track on a massive wooden structure that provides a very smooth ride while enabling the coaster’s trains to perform maneuvers previously unheard of on a wooden roller coaster.

Riders will climb 205 feet and then find themselves staring straight down a 90-degree initial drop and a 200-foot fall to earth. The ride lasts about 2 minutes, 30 seconds.

Cabaret features Neil Diamond songs

YOUNGSTOWN

Music at Madison cabaret will present “The Songs of Neil Diamond” Saturday in the gardens of Madison Moore, a Victorian century home, across from Youngstown State University’s Lyden House dormitory.

The show stars Rodd Coonce and features Colleen Chance, Jason McCoy and Patsy Sullivan, with musical accompaniment by Jack Ciarniello and Nico Ruggieri. A potluck dinner (potluck dish welcome, not required) starts at 7 p.m., with the show at 8 p.m. The audience is encouraged to sing along. The admission is $20. The event is BYOB; stemware will be provided.

Packard Band

WARREN

The Packard Band will present “Summer Reflections” at 7 p.m. Sunday at the South Lawn band shell of Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW. The free concert is the final one of the summer series.

Soloists will include the Packard percussion section: Ken Alexander, Robert Barnett, Carla Dean, Tyler Husosky and Steve Ley. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be performed indoors.
