Scarsella to speak at Tyler Center

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s next Bites and Bits of History lunch program will be Thursday at noon at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown, with guest speaker Richard S. Scarsella, president of the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society.

Scarsella will discuss McGuffey, who lived in the Mahoning Valley, influenced American education with his famous Eclectic Readers.

Guests can bring a lunch, or visit Overture restaurant for its $6 lunch special. Call 330-744-9900 to place an order. Coffee, pop and water will be available for purchase at the History Center.

Krakusy Society plans annual picnic

POLAND

The Free Polish Krakusy Society’s annual Summer Picnic will take place Sunday from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Countryside Farm, 4684 Center Road (U.S. route 224).

Pierogi, kielbasa, golabki and haluski will be served along with Polish beers. There will be children’s activities, face painting, music, raffle, a silent auction and cornhole tournament. Film needs extras

Day players, extras and extras with mixed martial arts experience are being sought for the film “Escape Plan 3,” starring Sylvester Stallone and Dave Bautista, that will be shot in Mansfield, Ohio. Actors must be of eastern European descent, and be available Sept. 18-Oct. 13, and be available morning to night. Pay varies by role.
