Yankees sweep Scrappers

Kyle Higashioka hit a three-run home run as the Staten Island Yankees defeated the Scrappers, 10-7, on Sunday at Eastwood Field to complete a three-game sweep.
Higashioka had three hits, driving in four, as the Yankees exploded for a season-high in runs.
Trailing 10-1 in the eighth inning, the Scrappers made things interesting late. They scored five runs in the eighth inning and had
runners on first and second base in the bottom of the ninth when Elvis Perez struck out to end the game.
The Yankees jumped on Scrappers starter Francisco Perez (3-4) early, scoring three times in the first inning.
Wilkerman Garcia and Higashioka scored on an error and Jose Polonia hit a sacrifice fly.
The Yankees added four runs in the fourth and three in the eighth.
In the fourth, Higashioka hit a three-run home run.
Higashioka hit an RBI single in the eighth.
Greg Weissert (2-2) got the win in relief in the New York-Penn League game.
Perez took the loss, allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits in four innings.
For the Scrappers, Clark Scolamiero batting leadoff and Will Benson each drove in two runs. Jonathan Laureano and Michael Rivera each had two hits.
The Scrappers are off for two days for the New York-Penn League’s All-Star Game. They will return to action on Wednesday in Batavia, N.Y., against the Muckdogs.
