YOUNGSTOWN
A 2-year-old boy is in the hospital after being shot Sunday, authorities said.
The child was life-flighted from Northside Hospital to Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron.
A call about the child came over Youngstown police dispatch just after 9 p.m.
Youngstown police later alerted Trumbull County dispatch due to indications the shooting happened in Liberty Township.
Police said they believe the shooting may have occurred at Northgate Drive in the township, though the investigation was still in the early stages.
Erich Luketic, a Trumbull County 911 supervisor, said late Sunday that the child’s condition is unknown.
The matter has been referred to Liberty police for investigation.
The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, reported that the child’s family told police the child shot himself in the thigh accidentally.
