Author announces release of novel

Coraopolis, Pa.

Susan Dexter of New Castle, Pa., announced the release of her novel, “The Prince of Ill Luck: Book One of the Warhorse of Esdragon,” at Confluence, the Pittsburgh Area Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, which took place Aug. 4-6 in Coraopolis, Pa.

The book and others written by Dexter are available at Three Sheep Gallery & Workshop, 6010 Market St., Boardman. They also are available on Amazon.com and books through the Kindle and Nook platforms.

Monday Night Writers meeting set for Aug. 21

The next meeting of Monday Night Writers is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 in the small meeting room at the Canfield Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, 43 W. Main St. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend.

Led by professional writer Nancy Christie, author of “Traveling Left Of Center And Other Stories” and “Rut-Busting Book for Writers,” the two-hour sessions offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works in progress.

Discussion group lists Aug., Sept. choices

SALEM

The Salem Public Library book discussion group will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St., to discuss the book “Before the Fall” by Noah Hawley.

The book is a contemporary thriller about 11 people traveling on a private plane departing from Martha’s Vineyard headed for New York. Sixteen minutes into the flight, the plane disappears into the ocean.

The group also will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 in the Quaker Room to discuss the Ann Patchett novel “Commonwealth.” The book explores the dramatic and surprising long-term aftereffects of a chance encounter.
