AUSTINTOWN

Travelers on Interstate 80 between the Ohio Turnpike and state Route 46, and on Interstate 76 between state Route 534 and the turnpike, will experience lane restrictions beginning Monday as the Ohio Department of Transportation makes pavement repairs. The work marks the beginning of a $700,000 project scheduled to be completed by late September.

Assault charge

YOUNGSTOWN

Bond was set at $30,000 Friday for a street department employee accused of punching his supervisor.

John Cox, 57, was arraigned on a charge of felonious assault before Judge Elizabeth Kobly. Cox is accused of punching his supervisor just after 9 a.m. on Brooklyn Avenue after the supervisor was upset Cox did not finish some work he was supposed to complete. The victim suffered a facial fracture and a concussion, police said.

Grants awarded

YOUNGSTOWN

The U.S. Department of Education awarded $1 million for programming in the Youngstown area.

The Youngstown schools received about $600,000 to be divided among Paul C. Bunn, William Holmes McGuffey and Martin Luther King elementary schools.

The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley received $400,000 for Success After 6 programming at Williamson Elementary School in Youngstown and other Valley schools. Success After 6 provides tutoring, physical fitness, arts and warm meals to kindergarten through third-graders.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center grants focus on academic enrichment at inner-city and rural schools.

Food orders sought

NILES

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., is accepting orders for King Foods at the church with cash, check, money order or EBT Card from 11 a.m. to noon Monday. Orders also will be taken at Niles Community Services from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Monday. Prices range from $27 to $44. There are no income restrictions or guidelines.

Make checks payable to New Hope UM Church. To receive a receipt, enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope. Online credit-card orders will be taken through 10 a.m. Wednesday. The online address is www.kingfoods.org. Distribution will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 26. There will be a free community breakfast served from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and the clothing room will be open.

Library to be closed

YOUNGSTOWN

The main branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be closed Thursday for a special event. The library at 305 Wick Ave. will host Mary Kay Andrews, a New York Times best-selling author. The event, hosted by the Literary Society, begins at 7 p.m. Thursday and costs $70 to attend. Road closings

The Ohio Department of Transportation announced road closings in Trumbull County beginning Monday for various projects. State Route 45 between Front and Market streets in Warren will be closed through Thursday for railroad crossing repairs being performed by the city. The detour will be Oak Street to Highland Avenue to Market.

State Route 87 in Mesopotamia Township between state Routes 534 and 538 will be closed through Wednesday for a culvert replacement. The detour will be state Route 528 to Route 88 to Route 534.
