YOUNGSTOWN
The touring stage show “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical” will come to Powers Auditorium on Nov. 30 for a 7 p.m. performance.
Tickets are on sale at youngstownsymphony.com, by phone at 330-744-0264 and at the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office, 260 W. Federal St.
The show is based on the 1964 stop-motion animation holiday television special that airs every year, and features the same cast of iconic characters, including Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius and the Abominable Snow Monster, who help Santa save Christmas.
The characters, including the 12-foot-tall snow monster, are brought to the stage against a backdrop of nostalgic set designs.
“It’s a wonderful new way to experience this family tradition,” said producing partner Jonathan Flom. “This show entertains and, at the same time, helps spread the important message that we should celebrate our differences.”
The story tells of a young Rudolph who, because of his bright, shining nose, is excluded from the Reindeer Games. He makes new friends at the Island of Misfit Toys, and then journeys home, where a snowstorm is threatening Christmas.
