12th annual Slovak Fest at St. Matthias Church

The 12th annual Mahoning Valley Slovak Fest will take place Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. at St. Matthias Church, 915 Cornell St.

The festival will begin immediately after a Slovak and English Mass at 11 a.m. Slovak food, including halusky, holubky, pirohy, klobasa and sauerkraut, roast pork sandwiches, barbecued chicken, and Slovak and domestic beer will be available.

From noon to 3 p.m., Slovakian dinners, with breaded pork cutlet, klobasa, sauerkraut, holubky and halusky, will be served in the Father Snock Center.

A selection of Slovak baked goods, including kolace, kiffles and palacinky, will be sold.

A heritage corner will have a display of folk costumes, maps, corn husk dolls, photos, books, embroidery and informational items. There also will be a display of Slovak crystal and other Slovak items for sale.

A raffle and a basket auction also will be part of the event.

Live music will be performed by Jack Vasko from noon to 3 p.m., Alexander’s Harmonica Artistry (in Snock Center) at 3 p.m. and Del Sinchak from 4 to 8 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee for those attending the festival just for the polka dance.
