Man faces stolen property charges in Boardman

Township police arrested a Youngstown man early Sunday after finding him walking in an area where numerous thefts and burglaries were reported over the weekend.
According to a police report, an officer observed Cory Gooch, 27, of Indianola Avenue walking on Leighton Avenue about 2:15 a.m. Sunday. The officer saw that Gooch was holding a GPS unit and electronics, according to the report.
The officer, who noted in the report several thefts from autos and burglaries had been reported the previous two nights at residences in the area, stopped Gooch and reported finding in Gooch’s possession numerous items belonging to residents of Arlene, Meadowbrook, Gertrude and Leighton avenues.
Two of the victims told police that they recently had items stolen from their vehicles, and police reported several other vehicles also had been entered.
Police also reported finding other items on the ground on Leighton.
Gooch was arrested on two counts of receiving stolen property for having the items taken from vehicles in his possession, according to the report.
Additionally, police searched a room at a motel where Gooch was staying. There, officers reported finding a slew of electronic devices, Gooch’s wallet, $271 in cash, “a large grocery bag” full of quarters, and another bag full of nickels and dimes.
Police seized numerous items as evidence and noted that some of the items matched a description of items had been reported stolen over the weekend.
According to Mahoning County court records, Gooch previously was convicted of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and theft.
He was in the Mahoning County jail Monday, and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment.
According to police reports filed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, township police received numerous reports of thefts from auto and burglaries over the weekend.
On Friday, someone reported change was stolen from their car parked on Maple Drive.
On Saturday, one theft from auto and two attempted burglaries were reported on Melrose, burglaries were reported on Brookfield Avenue and Willow Drive, and a theft from auto was reported on Wolosyn Circle. In the Brookfield Avenue case, someone reported approximately $15,000 worth of property had been stolen from their house.
On Sunday, thefts from auto were reported on Leighton and Arlene avenues.
