Baird 18-U advances to Palomino semifinals
SANTA CLARA, CALIF.
The Baird Brothers 18-U baseball team has advanced to the semifinals of the PONY Palomino World Series after winning twice on Saturday and once on Friday when Travis Perry threw a no-hitter.
Baird Brothers beat the Santa Clara Soldiers 8-5 in its final game Saturday to clinch a semifinals berth. Cade Negley worked 52/3 innings for the win and Maxx Harpalani finished for a save.
Negley is a Santa Clara University recruit.
Jeff Wehler homered and doubled for Baird Brothers and Jacob Maggi homered and singled. Dom Bucko added a double and triple and Mike Turner and Zach Campbell also had two hits each.
Earlier Saturday, Baird Brothers beat Aruba 11-4. After Aruba scored four runs in the first inning, Ryan Weaver came on in the second and pitched six shutout innings for the win.
Turner, Perry and Campbell each had three hits. Among Perry’s hits were a double and home run. Noah Laster added two doubles and Wehler hit a three-run homer.
Perry’s no-hitter came in an 18-0 win over Michigan on Friday.
An 11-run inning sparked Baird Brothers. Wehler went 4 for 4 with two doubles and a home run and Turner added three hits, including a double. Maggi had two hits.
Baird Brothers will play Santa Clara in a semifinal today at 4 p.m. A victory would put Baird Brothers in the finals at 10 p.m.
