Ohio manufacturing is responsible for 18 percent of Ohio’s gross domestic product, according to the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association “2017 Ohio Manufacturing Counts” report.

The report gives several statistics on the state’s manufacturing industry.

The report notes that the industry provides 700,000 jobs for Ohio workers and an annual payroll of $39 billion. It’s responsible for almost $50 billion in products to 213 countries and territories.

Manufacturing, the report says, is the largest of the 20 sectors of Ohio’s economy.

Ohio’s manufacturing sector gross domestic product was $108.1 billion in 2015, ranking it third in the nation after California and Texas.

Ohio ranked second nationally in the number of new site selections for manufacturing projects in the past five years. Texas came in first.

Of Ohio’s 14,139 manufacturing establishments in 2015, 40 percent were in six counties: Cuyahoga, Hamilton, Summit, Franklin, Montgomery and Lake.

Last year, Ohio ranked third in manufacturing employment nationally.

More than one out every 10 of Ohio’s workers was employed in manufacturing in 2015. In Mahoning County, 7.2 percent of employment was manufacturing in 2015; Trumbull County’s manufacturing employment was 14.1 percent; and Columbiana County’s manufacturing employment was 14.7 percent.

The Ohio Manufacturers’ Association’s mission is to protect and grow Ohio manufacturing.
