Cardinal Mooney girls win Bishop’s Cup
POLAND
The Cardinal Mooney girls golf team won the Bishop’s Cup Tournament on Friday at The Lake Club.Aug 4, 2017 at the Lake Club.
Cardinals freshman Jayne Bernard was the tournament medalist with a 93 and sophomore Alexandria Patrone was runner-up with a 96.
Other scores for Mooney (411) included Anna Mshar (108) and Grace Ogden (115).
Warren JFK (456) was second. The Eagles’ scorers were Emily Marcavish (101), Megan Walsh (111), Naomi Herman (119), Marikate Roscoe (125).
Canton Central Catholic (485) was third. The Crusaders’ scorers were Alexis Niemi (105), Hannah Kasapis (120), Elle Harper (128) and Madison Butterfield (132).
Ursuline (490) was fourth. The Irish scorers were Kelly Wlodarsky (105), Erika Hankavich (128), Megan Stoneburner (125) and Kamryn Ross (132).
Trumbull Sports HOF to induct 12 on Oct. 29

The 15th annual Trumbull County Sports Hall of Fame Banquet is slated for Oct. 29 with 12 new members set to be enshrined during ceremonies at Warren’s DiVieste’s Banquet Center, 754 North River Road.
The 2017 class includes Kelly Barzak (basketball, volleyball and coaching), Alfie Burch (football), Darrin Chapin (baseball), Joseph “Jody” DiTunno (football), Denise Naples (basketball), Dave Pappada (football), U.S. Rep Tim Ryan (football), Lalu Sabotin (boxing and golf), Bob Sherman (soccer referee), Don Szuch (football, track and field), Matt Thiry (track and field) and Alan C. Wilson (multiple sports).
Tickets – $30 each with a table of eight priced at $210 – may be obtained by calling Chuck Potashnik, organization president at 330-856-6219.
Boardman fall sports meeting Monday night
BOARDMAN
Boardman High School will have the OHSAA mandatory parent-athlete fall sports meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday in the high school auditorium.
Each athlete and at least one parent must attend. There will be a check-in table for each sport located in the hallway near the auditorium. Parents should arrive by 5:45 p.m. to check in with their son or daughter’s coach.
Everyone should enter through Door 8. The meeting is for high school fall sports only.
Poland sports passes, tickets on sale Aug. 14
POLAND
The Poland High School Athletic Office will begin to sell passes on Aug. 14 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. On sale will be reserved parking passes for $25, adult activity passes for $100 and student activity passes for $50.
Anyone wishing to purchase new football reserved season tickets can do so starting Aug. 21.
General admission tickets for Poland’s Aug. 25 season opener against Marlington will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Aug. 21.

San Jose State names Prioleau head coach
SAN JOSE, Calif.
Jean Prioleau was named San Jose State’s men’s basketball head coach on Friday.
Prioleau, who signed a five-year contract, joins SJSU after seven seasons as an assistant and associate head coach at Colorado. He has 11 Division I postseason appearance in 18 seasons as an assistant coach.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead, mentor and push our student athletes to compete to the best of their ability,” Prioleau said.
He played and started his college coaching career at Fordham, where he ranks second in steals and assists. He’s also fifth in scoring with 1,442 points.
Dave Wojcik resigned in July after four seasons with SJSU, going 32-90 overall.
The Spartans are coming of their most successful season in six years, posting a 14-16 record and tying for eighth in the Mountain West Conference.
