METRO DIGEST || Saved by 3 doses of Narcan
Saved by Narcan
YOUNGSTOWN
Quick response by city police to a 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday reporting that a car had run off Poland Avenue near Indianola Avenue likely saved the life of the unconscious driver who had overdosed on heroin.
It took all three of the Narcan doses police had available to revive the man, said Detective Sgt. Sharon Cole.
Narcan is a prescription medicine that blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose. After the man was revived, he was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment, Cole said. He will be cited for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
“Thank God someone saw him. The police got here quickly and got him out of the car and administered the Narcan. They saved him. He was out. They did their job very well,” an observer said.
