Valley dog shows coming this weekend


CANFIELD

Steel Valley Cluster will present four AKC all-breed dog shows at the Canfield Fairgrounds from Thursday through Sunday to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the show. Judging begins at 8 a.m. and Best in Show judging concludes between 5 and 6 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 per vehicle.

The Cluster consists of Mahoning Shenango Kennel Club, Beaver County Kennel Club, Columbiana County Kennel Club and Fort Steuben Kennel Association.

Judging for all AKC breeds and Junior Showmanship (10-18 year olds) will be featured each day, as well as many specialty (one breed) shows and supported entries.

Dock-diving competition will take place from 9 to 5 Thursday through Saturday and from 9 to 3 Sunday. All dogs that can swim are eligible for a $15 fee to try it. Purina PROPLAN Dog Food is the official supporter of the shows.

Additional attractions will include complimentary hospitality in the mornings; eye and heart health fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Junior handler clinic on Saturday; and Canine Good Citizen testing 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday with a $20 fee per dog.

The theme for the weekend will be “Christmas in Canfield.”
