Paws for a Cause will sponsor a “color” walk/run Saturday to benefit the Trumbull County Dog Kennel. Registration begins at noon. The run/walk begins at 12:30 p.m. at the kennel, 7501 Anderson Ave. NE. Registration is $15 for an individual or $12 for a team of four or more people. Mahoning art show

The Mahoning County Educational Service Center will honor talented high school artists and their instructors at the 30th annual Mahoning County Art Show. About 90 students, grades nine through 12, from 17 school districts in Mahoning, Columbiana and Portage counties will be recognized in the Joyce Brooks Center at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road. More than 100 original art pieces will be displayed. Award winners, their parents and school personnel have been invited to a gallery walk to view the artwork beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with an awards ceremony to follow at 6:30 p.m.

Gardening hot line

NEW CASTLE, PA.

Penn State master gardeners in Lawrence County have opened its hot line for the spring/summer season to answer questions on growing plants and grass, plant identification, pruning and insect and disease problems. To help with identification and diagnosis, plant and insect specimens can be taken to the Lawrence County Extension office at the courthouse, 430 Court St., during hot line hours. Gardeners will be on duty from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Thursdays; 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays; call 724-654-8370.

YSU finishes first

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s Steel Bridge Team moves to the national competition at Oregon State University May 26-27 after taking first place in the regional Steel Bridge Competition recently at Ohio State University. The 12-member team, an American Society of Civil Engineers YSU student chapter, competed against 15 colleges and universities from Ohio, Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania, including Carnegie Mellon, the universities of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and OSU. YSU also placed first in the concrete horseshoe competition and second in the environmental design competition.
