Cop smashes window

YOUNGSTOWN

A Youngstown police officer smashed the driver’s side window of a car he had pursued when the driver refused to get out of the car.

A report said police tried to pull over Braylon Howell, 22, after 8 p.m. on Fifth Avenue for not using his headlights. Instead, an officer said, Howell continued to drive, and did not stop at signs or red lights, though he did slow down to make sure traffic was clear.

Officers said the car finally stopped after pulling into a Bonnie Brae Avenue driveway. After Officer John Wess smashed the window with his baton, officers tackled Howell to the ground before cuffing him after they said he did not comply with orders.

Howell faces a charge of failure to comply with the order of a police officer.

Howell could not be reached to comment.
