Zallow third overall at Penn Relays

Youngstown State’s Chad Zallow finished first in his heat in Friday’s preliminary round of the 110 hurdles at the Penn Relays with a time of 13.77 seconds, good enough to qualify for today’s final. Zallow is third overall for today’s final behind Jamaica’s Ronald Levy (13.50) and Syracuse’s Freddie Crittenden III (13.54).

Penguins sweep CSU on Senior Day

Senior Caitlyn Minney picked up a pair of wins as YSU swept a doubleheader from Cleveland State on Senior Day at the YSU Softball Field. The Penguins won 3-1 in the opener and 12-4 in six innings in game two.

With the sweep, the Penguins improve to 25-26 overall and 13-7 in the Horizon League and extended their league-game winning streak to eight games.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Coaches, players will host summer camps

The Youngstown State men’s basketball program will host two individual camps and a team shootout this summer.

Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun, his staff and student-athletes will serve as camp instructors for a Day Camp, Skills Camp and a shootout for high school varsity and junior varsity teams. All camps are open to any and all entrants.

The Day Camp is June 12-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and costs $145 for kids ages 8-18.

The Skills Camp runs from June 19-22 from 8:30 a.m. to Noon and costs $95 for kids ages 8-18.

The Team Shootout is June 11 and costs $250 per team.

MEN’s TENNIS

Penguins advance to Horizon semifinals

The Youngstown State men’s tennis team opened play at the Horizon League Championships with a 4-0 win over Northern Kentucky on Friday at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.

With the win, the Penguins improve to 19-7 overall and advance to play top-seed Valpariso in the semifinals on Saturday.

YSU started off well winning the doubles point. At No. 1, Mitch Maroscher and Thomas Rodrigues won 6-1 while Danylo Veremeichuk and Joao Garretto picked up a 6-3 victory.
