Shepherd accepting residents in Poland

POLAND

Shepherd of the Valley Poland is accepting new residents in its skilled nursing and rehabilitation center as of Monday.

The community at 301 W. Western Reserve Road has had assisted and independent living since it opened and added skilled nursing to provide a full continuum of care on the campus.

Shepherd of the Valley is only accepting residents with traditional Medicare and Medicaid but is working to secure additional managed-care contracts.

Anyone interested in the facility can set up a tour or get additional information by contacting Elida Cowles, admissions and marketing director, at 330-726-7110, ext. 2318.

Rebate for small businesses

COLUMBUS

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation has finalized another $1 billion payback to private and public employers, plus plans for additional support for workplace safety and wellness initiatives, including a new program aimed at small businesses.

The rebate was announced last month by Gov. John Kasich, but the BWC board gave its formal approval Friday.

Upward of 200,000 employers will receive checks later this year equal to 66 percent of the premiums they paid into the system in 2015 and/or ’16.

It’s the third round of BWC paybacks since Kasich took office, thanks, in part, to higher-than-expected investment returns.

Goodyear reports 1Q earnings

AKRON

Goodyear’s first-quarter results managed to beat analysts’ expectations, even as the tire maker dealt with rising raw-material costs and softer demand.

For the three months ended March 31, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. earned $166 million, or 65 cents per share. That compares with $184 million, or 68 cents per share, a year earlier.

Earnings, adjusted for one-time costs, came to 74 cents per share. That easily topped the 63 cents per share that analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research predicted.

Revenue for the Akron, Ohio-based company was nearly flat at $3.7 billion. Analysts expected $3.69 billion in revenue, according to Zacks.
