PSO ends local series

NEW CASTLE, PA.

After 16 years, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will discontinue its Scottish Rite Cathedral series of concerts after this season. The final performance at the venue will take place Friday.

Kenneth Shiderly, president of the Cathedral Foundation, was informed of the decision by Melia Tourangeau, president of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. In a letter sent to the foundation, Tourangeau cited the financial challenges of the New Castle performances. The PSO has not been able to cover its costs the last couple years.

Friday’s concert at Scottish Rite, 110 E. Lincoln Ave., will be a pops program of the music of Hollywood composer John Williams (“Star Wars,” “Superman,” “Indiana Jones”). Tickets range from $16 to $59. To buy, call 412-392-4900 or go to pittsburghsymphony.org/SRC.
