Hundreds of children, and their families, took advantage of the warm, sunny day to attend the Canfield Dairy Queen’s annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 15.

With several thousand of plastic eggs and thousands of pieces of candy hidden in straw strewn around the green, the children, up to age 10, anxiously waited to pick up as much as they could to fill their Easter baskets, buckets and bags.

The plastic eggs were filled with candy, coupons for Dairy Queen treats or raffle tickets, which qualified the lucky child for a chance to win one of the grand prize buckets filled with assorted toys and games and a coupon for a Dairy Queen item. Dairy Queen staffers also handed out raffle tickets to the adults in the crowd, to possibly win one of three prizes.

To make it fair and to break up the large crowd, a section was set aside for children ages 4 and under. The other section was for children ages 5 and up.

Pastor Jill Barton of Rush Church emceed the event, including welcoming everyone to the event, pumping the children up by doing egg hunt ‘calisthenics,’ starting the countdown and calling the winning numbers of the raffle tickets.

“We are gonna have a lot of fun today. Are you ready to egg hunt? Thank you, Canfield Dairy Queen, for sponsoring the egg hunt and thank you, Rush Church, for helping out today,” Barton said.

Dairy Queen staffers and volunteers from Rush Church worked together to put on the annual event.

“We have 800 raffle tickets, 800 Dairy Queen coupons, several thousand eggs, tons of candy and 10 golden spoons the children can find to turn in for special prize. Rush Church, as always, has been a huge help. We thank them very much. This could not be done without them,” said Pamela Simmons, Canfield Dairy Queen staff member in charge of marketing.

After all the eggs and candy were picked up, everyone crowded around with their raffle tickets in hand to learn if they had won a Dairy Queen prize.

Prior to the egg hunt, attendees could have some fun playing games and activities provided by Rush Church. The Cardinal Joint Fire District also sent two trucks for the kids to check out before the egg hunt.
