BASEBALL

Western Reserve 2, Champion 1

The Blue Devils (15-2) won despite getting a single hit. The first run came in the first inning when Ryan Demsky scored after four consecutive walks. Champion’s (15-3) Drake Batcho and Kyle Forrest combined to take a no-hitter into the seventh before Garrett Mihalik got a hit off Golden Flashes reliever Andrew Russell. Demsky scored the deciding run off Dom Velasquez’ sac-fly. Aaron Williams hit an RBI-single in the seventh for Champion. Wyatt Larimer scattered seven hits while striking out nine in a complete game victory.

Boardman 5, Solon 3

Mike Fetsko singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. Jarod Wilson threw three-ana-a-third innings of one-hit ball to get the win in relief. Coleman Stauffer got two RBIs on two hits for the Spartans. Ryan McCurry, Casey Maniglin and Jeremy Friedman each hit a double for Solon.

Niles 9, Hubbard 4

Joseph Gallo’s three hits included a double and drove in four runs for the Red Dragons. Nicholas Guarnierni scored three runs and contributed two hits. Marco DeFalco’s two hits included a double and he scored twice. Corbon Foy also scored two runs. For the Eagles, Cam Chaney had two hits and scored twice.

Canfield 13, West Branch 4

Winning pitcher Anthony Longo scattered six hits. Dominic Pilolli had three hits and four RBIs while Ricky Havrilla had three hits and three RBIs. Jimmy Fitzgerald also had three hits for Canfield (12-3). Jake Lyons doubled and drove in a run for the Warriors (14-6).

Howland 9, Lakeside 3

The Tigers smacked 17 hits in the win. Frank Rappach and Cameran Dickey each had three of those. Dickey also had two doubles and three RBIs in the win. Zachary Campbell went 3-for-4 with three runs and triple. Jacob Harsany picked up the win, allowing two earned runs in five innings of relief.

Austintown Fitch 13, East Liverpool 9

Kole Klasic, Malik Caige, Nick Bianco and Vinny Direnzo each hit a double for Fitch (8-9). Caige and Bianco each had three RBIs. Joe Chepke gave up eight runs on 10 hits while striking out two to improve to 2-0 on the season.

South Range 7, Girard 6

Brent Nielsen drove in two runs while Ethan Dominguez’s two hits included a double for the Raiders (14-4). For the Indians (9-11), Nick Malito had two hits.

Jackson-Milton 5 Crestview 1

Noah Laster allowed just two hits and struck out 17 for the Bluejays (14-3). It was the second-consecutive day Jackson-Milton has had a 17-strikeout performanced. Eric Ostrowski collected three hits and three RBIs while Scott Mitchell also had two hits. Devin Tuvey had a double for Crestview (9-8).

Columbiana 11-6, Lisbon 7-2

Tim Davin hit a grand slam as the Clippers won the suspended game from last week to clinch a share of the Inter-Tri County League White Tier crown. Mitch Davidson had three hits and scored twice. C. Stacey also had two hits. For the Blue Devils, C. Summers had four hits and four RBIs while J. Entrikin had three hits. In the second game, Jake Clark had three hits and drove in two runs. Zach Fahs also had two RBIs. For the Blue Devils, Noah Barnes and B. McCullough drove in a run apiece and Summers tripled.

Mineral Ridge 3, Leetonia 2

Jacob Rhodes drove in the winning run in the seventh inning. Koby Zupko and Tyler Squiric each had two hits for Ridge. Leetonia’s Jacob Keats struck out eight while taking the loss and Toby Heckman had two hits for the Bears.

Mathews 7, Maplewood 3

The Mustangs (9-2, 8-1) scored six in the second inning. Mitch Goff and Ian DeGaten each had two hits and two RBIs. Anthony Oulton also had two hits. Ryan Kay struck out two to get the win. Shane Swogger had three hits for Maplewood (8-8).

SOFTBALL

Canfield 5, Poland 4

Ally Lambert drove in the winning run with her single in the bottom of the eighth inning at Akron’s Firestone Stadium. Winning pitcher Bridget Durkin struck out eight and walked none. Kalin Kovach and Savannah Maass each had two singles for the Cardinals. For Poland, Amanda Wire had two hits plus a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and Lauren Sienkiewicz tripled.

Cardinal Mooney 12, Lowellville 6

Bridget Sweeney and Kelly Williams each blasted three-run homers for the Cardinals (10-4). Kayla Rutherford had three hits while Jordan McLay and Brooke Chandler had two hits each. Freshman Maddie Filisky earned the victory with four innings of one-hit relief.

Garrettsville Garfield 4, Ursuline 3

Jordan Kenneally took the hard-luck loss, striking out seven and walking two while racking up two hits at the plate. McKenzie Shells also tripled for the Irish (9-6). Katie Synnestvedt had two doubles and three RBIs for the G-Men (9-4).

Mineral Ridge 6, Leetonia 3

Ariel Laneve struck out seven Leetonia batters and went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple. Hannah Ramsey also was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle for the Rams.
