Doo Wop Project coming to campus
NEW WILMINGTON, PA.
The Doo Wop Project will come to Orr Auditorium at Westminster College on May 6 for a 7:30 p.m. concert. Tickets start at $33 and can be purchased at westminster.edu/celebrity or by calling 724-946-7354. The concert is part of the college’s Celebrity Series.
The Doo Wop Project traces the evolution of doo wop music from street corner singers to the biggest hits. Backed by a full band, the act touches on songs by many groups, from the Crests, the Belmonts and the Flamingos, to Smokey Robinson, the Temptations and The Four Seasons, and on to Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz and Amy Winehouse.
The cast features current and former stars of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys” and “Motown: The Musical.”
Comedy show at Nic’s Lounge

Saturday Night Laughs comedy show will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at Nic’s Lounge, 1629 S. Main St.
The headliner will be Larry Dino Simpson, with Jon Huff as the host and Dwan Ford as featured comedian. Also on the bill are Will Hopskin, Lex Godoy, Monica Boor, Uncle Butter, Shane Herman, Tim Wolfe and Mack McLendon. Admission is $5.
Polka party with Frank Stanger Band

The Frank Stanger Band will perform at a polka party from 3 to 7 p.m. May 7 at the St. George Croatian Center, 3200 Vestal Road.

Theater workshops at Kent-Trumbull

To help celebrate its 40th anniversary, Kent State Trumbull Theatre is having summer workshops for youths age 8 to 15.
Throughout six workshops led by Dana Warren-Tolios, the students will explore techniques to unleash their creativity and polish their skills for a show or audition.
Warren-Tolios has been involved with Kent State Trumbull Theatre since 1990. After her graduation and three years service in the Army, she returned to Kent State to pursue a degree in business management with a minor in theater. During her time at Kent State Trumbull, she was president of the Drama Club and was an active member and president of the Live Wires Improvisational Troupe. In 2002, she began teaching children’s acting classes for the campus’ Summer Stock as well as choreographing many of the Summer Stock musicals.
The workshops will take place June 5, 7, 12, 14, 19 and 20 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 117 of the Technology Building, Kent State University at Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW.
The fee is $50 for the entire series. Theater or dance experience is not necessary. Participants do not have to be in any of the Summer Stock shows to participate. Contact trumbullboxoffice@kent.edu for information.

Band festival, dinner
BELOIT
The West Branch Band Boosters will present a spaghetti dinner ($7) before its annual Festival of Bands on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The concert, which is free, will follow the dinner in the school gym at 7:30 p.m.
