Kevin Wyndham of Howland is now the chairman of the Trumbull County Republican Party, after the ouster of former chairman Randy Law of Warren.

Members of the Trumbull County GOP Central Committee voted 45-0 Tuesday to appoint Wyndham.

Wyndham, a managing partner of Lewis Construction Co., was the only person to receive a nomination.

Committee members voted out Law during a contentious meeting earlier this month. Police were called to that meeting.

County party leaders had attempted to oust Law in January, but the Ohio Republican Party later determined they had not followed proper procedure during that meeting.

“The Trumbull GOP is tired,” Wyndham said during a party meeting Tuesday evening at Howland Community Church. “It’s weary. It’s broke. It’s financially broke. Its spirit is broke. Those of us that are left standing have endured two years of more than I would wish on any of us.”

Wyndham said he would work to re-establish the party’s credibility with the press, with voters and with donors.

“There was the party, which has been very united as whole, and there was Randy Law,” Wyndham said. “We need to earn our stripes, so to speak, and demonstrate that we are a credible organization again.”

Law, who served one term as state representative beginning in 2005, dismissed those criticisms of his management.

“It’s a bunch of bullies and thugs ... trying to take control of the party,” Law said.
