Five Clipper Destination Imagination Teams Head to Global Finals

COLUMBIANA – The Columbiana Clippers will be well represented at the Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals, the world’s largest celebration of student creativity, from May 24-27 in Knoxville, Tenn. That’s because five DI teams from Columbiana placed in the state competition, qualifying them to compete Globally.

Two middle level teams and three secondary (high school) level teams, comprised of 29 students, have been working on their challenges throughout the school year. Two teams will compete in the Engineering/Structural challenge, two teams in the Improvisational category and one team in the Project Outreach category.

During the finals, all five Clipper DI teams will compete in one of six, open-ended central challenges that require students to apply STEAM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) skills. Teams are also required to complete an instant challenge, a fast-paced team problem-solving collaboration.

Columbiana’s DI teams will be among more than 8,000 students representing more than 1,400 teams advancing to Global Finals, which will be held at the University of Tennessee. Teams will represent 45 states and 14 different countries.
