Joseph Nohra, Youngstown City Schools chief operating officer since January, has accepted the Liberty Local School District superintendent position.
The Liberty school board approved Nohra’s hiring at its meeting Monday. He will begin his new job Aug. 1. It is a five-year contract beginning in August, and a 40-day extension beginning today. Salary information was not immediately available.
Nohra served as Struthers City Schools superintendent from 2012 until accepting the Youngstown post. No decisions have been made about filling the city schools’ COO position.
YSU English Festival
YOUNGSTOWN
Award-winning authors E. Lockhart and Gene Luen Yang are featured presenters for the 39th annual Youngstown State University English Festival on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on campus. More than 3,000 seventh- through 12th-graders from schools throughout the region are preregistered for the festival.
Lockhart is the author of 10 books for young adults, including “The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks” and “We Were Liars.”

Alpha and Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., Youngstown, will have a free lunch and distribute a bag of groceries and clothes from 11 a.m. to noon today. Recipients must bring photo identification.
State funds for YSU
COLUMBUS
The State Controlling Board on Monday released more than $219,000 for improvements at Youngstown State University. The funds will be used to upgrade underground steam and condensate lines and related systems on the campus. The board released nearly $55,000 for an upgrade to the card-access system at the Ohio State Penitentiary on Coitsville-Hubbard Road in Youngstown.

Emergency medical services in Milton, Jackson, Ellsworth and Berlin townships will be the topic of a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday meeting at the Milton Township Fire Department, said county Auditor Ralph Meacham, who will facilitate the meeting. In attendance will be trustees and fire chiefs of the four townships.
